A Light Rain Helps But Cannot Undo A Drought

Just in time for my gnomish gnotice that California is in a drought, we get our first batch of rains, ha-ha. But, as the title says, a drought is not ended by a few light showers. In fact, despite our recent rains, Orange County is actually falling farther behind average precipitation levels.

Here’s a look at year-to-date 2014 compared to the same for 2013 and a running 50 –year average. In fact, The Santa Ana weather station has been collecting data since 1909, so that is a running 104-year average!

While the rainfall shortfall might seem severe from the data, it is even more stark from space.

Whoa, now that IS something to see! The drought is still on. Sooo, every little bit you can do to help is important now more than ever. Remember, overwatering is out, but during a drought it is out of the question. Let me know how you’re doing your part to reduce water usage by 20% statewide so that I can encourage your neighbors to do the same!
